Job Description:

Position Summary

To safely implement Aullwood Audubon Programs for children ages 4-12. Camp Counselors in Training (CiT)

Camp Counselors will be needed for approximately 11 weeks over the course of the summer which will include one week of intensive training and ten weeks of camp. Candidates should be available from June 3 through August 9, 2024. Training occurs the week of June 3. Camp runs 4-8 hours per day from June 10 - August 9, 2024. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week. Summer camp staff will be subject to any CDC, State or local, or Audubon guidelines for Covid-19 safety.

This role is on-site at Aullwood Audubon, Dayton Ohio.

Compensation:

$16.00-$18.00 / hour

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

Assisting Summer Earth Adventure Camp Counselors in the following:
  • Assist Camp Counselors with writing and implementing camp lesson plans, executing each weeklong program session, setting, and cleaning up each day's activities including but not limited to helping to lead outdoor discovery hikes, conducting pond explorations, and facilitating nature crafts and games.
  • Keeping track of campers during the day and maintaining a safe and supportive atmosphere for campers.
  • Help campers resolve conflicts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience working with children: initiating group activities, playing games, babysitting, child minding, etc.
  • Willing to learn how to de-escalate conflict among campers.
  • Willing to learn Audubon's COVID-19 guidelines and safety procedures and enforcing those safety precautions, if necessary.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated, enthusiasm for working with children of all ages.
  • Able to be flexible.
  • Is a good listener.
  • Able to work productively in a team environment.
  • Counselors in Training must show respect for others of all ages, race, gender, etc., as well as respect for nature and the outdoors.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Must have transportation to and from work.
  • Able to walk on trails, hills and uneven terrain. Be able to run, sit, stand, grasp, lift, move, walk, push, reach, climb and pull for short and extended periods of time.
  • Able to work outdoors in the heat of summer, while wearing a mask, if required.
  • Willing to learn CPR and First Aid.
  • Willing to follow Audubon's policies, including inputting payroll information in a timely manner.
  • Must be willing to have temperature checks performed each day and receive COVID-19 testing per Audubon policy, if required.
  • Must be at least 16 years old or above on May 31, 2024.
  • Candidates preferred to be available from June 3 through August 9, 2024
