Union Pacific Railroad Company is looking to fill an Associate Systems Engineer position in Omaha, NE. May telecommute up to 50% of work time.

Accountabilities

  • Work with other team members to assist in meeting product goals through understanding applications and problem solving.
  • Demonstrate subject-matter expertise in front end development by quickly developing highly usable applications.
  • Work closely in an agile environment to incrementally release new applications to support company growth and train crew functionality needs.
  • Assist in providing technical leadership guidance to small groups of two to three engineers, including offshore associates, for assigned Engineering projects by proving pertinent documents, directions, examples, and timeline.
  • Collaborate with the User Experience team on projects requiring complex UI work, and ability to deliver working application that matches exact design specifications.
  • Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information (for example, issue, impact, criticality, possible root cause); performing root cause analysis to reduce future issues; engaging support teams to assist in the resolution of issues; developing solutions; driving the development of an action plan; performing actions as designated in the plan; interpreting the results to determine further action; and completing online documentation.
  • Keep up with constantly evolving technology by researching industry standard methodologies. Assist teams in developing and reporting on project schedules to meet the department and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with other teams and offer advice to solve practical problems or guidance on standard methodologies.

Qualifications - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent accepted) in computer science, software engineering, engineering management, management information systems, or related field plus 5 years progressively responsible experience in the occupation or as a software/systems engineer or related required. Such experience must include:
  • Five years of experience building highly available, mission critical architecture. Experience working with cross functional teams in large, distributed systems.
  • Five years of experience with mobile development including any of the following: Android SDK, Apache Cordova, Angular/Angular Material.
  • Five years of experience and ability to evangelize and drive alignment on technical solutions to Directors, Sr. Directors, and VPs.
  • Five years of demonstrable experience in Javascript and web application frameworks like AngularJS, ReactJS, NextJS, HTML5, CSS3. Analyze requirements, design, and develop applications with a focus on UI.
  • Five years of experience with responsive design with an emphasis on mobile. Experience with Material Design and UI best practices. Experience with hybrid mobile frameworks such as Apache Cordova.
  • Five years of experience with solid DevOps skills in troubleshooting live applications, assessing performance bottlenecks of applications running on cloud.
  • Five years of experience with version control software such as GIT & SVN.
  • Five years of experience working with CI/CD (Jenkins/Travis).
  • Five years of experience or exposure to Service Oriented Architecture.
  • Five years of experience and strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
  • Five years of hands-on experience with telemetry systems, APM alerting and monitoring.
  • Five years of experience and knowledge of micro-service architecture with code build using Maven, Gradle, Jenkins.
