3 Ways WTA Helps You-and Hiking Trails Trail Maintenance: WTA keeps trails open. Each year, more than 1,000 WTA volunteers pick up a pulaski or a shovel or a pair of loppers and set about maintaining hiking trails on public lands. Their combined effort is the equivalent of more than 24 full-time, year round trail crew members. Backcountry Advocacy: WTA works closely with land managers and legislators to ensure that they consider the interests of hikers when making decisions that impact trails. WTA advocates for increased funding, improved backcountry access, and stronger protection for Wilderness and other wild areas. Education: Visit www.wta.org and get up-to-date trail conditions, information on where to go, what you'll see when you get there, and how best to protect the trails that you hike? WTA also publishes a monthly magazine, Signpost for Northwest Trails. |
