Siemens Mobility is looking for an Apprentice for the Center of Competence in Optimization, in Rome within the Software BU area who will be trained in 2 years as Operations Research Scientist.

Your Challenge

As an Operations Research Scientist, you will be part of the recently founded Centre of Competence for Optimization at Siemens Mobility, working aside with top-tier scientists and engineers dedicated to advancing the state of the art and practice in Optimization and Decisions Sciences applied to Transportation. The focus of the group is to design and develop advanced optimization models and implement innovative algorithms to enhance Siemens Mobility's planning software and drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Some of the main activities will be:

  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of optimization models to enhance Siemens Mobility's planning software.
  • Employ mathematical programming software tools to devise solutions.
  • Collaborate with senior staff and multi-functional teams to understand business requirements and objectives.
  • Analyze data and take part in workshops to support the development of novel optimization approaches.
  • Stay ahead of the latest research and trends in optimization and operations research.
  • Actively seek ways to improve models, algorithms, and processes
  • Engage in international projects and collaborate with teams from various countries

Required entry qualifications:
  • You have less than 30 years of age, in accordance with the Italian apprenticeship contract
  • Recent PhD or PhD candidate nearing completion in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields with a thesis focused on optimization. Candidates with Master's degree candidates may also be considered.
  • Strong foundation in mathematical programming and familiarity with optimization software tools (e.g., CPLEX, Gurobi, etc).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate complex ideas clearly.
  • Programming skills in language of choice (Python, Java, C++ etc)
  • Proficiency in English and Italian
  • Team player ability, strong communication & interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work in a changing environment
  • Passion to never-stop growing
  • Respect and appreciation of each person's uniqueness, willingness to co create and share knowledge
  • Eligibility to work in Italy
