About the Role & Team

We are searching for an attorney to assist with Hulu related matters to support our fast-paced and innovative marketing team in the advertising/marketing/short-form content space.

This position requires content review and clearance experience, outstanding organizational skills, an unwavering attention to detail and deadlines, drafting and negotiating experience, acumen in legal issue spotting, and constant, effective communication with both internal clients and third parties in a fast-paced environment.

The right candidate will work closely with all levels of Business and Legal Affairs staff, internal business unit representatives and similarly situated parties outside of the company

What You Will Do
  • Act as the primary contact for legal clearances with regard to Hulu's marketing efforts, including in support of content marketing, brand marketing and product marketing initiatives.
  • Provide guidance in connection with legal issues arising out of the day-to-day marketing efforts of Hulu, including review of consumer-facing marketing materials and analyzing the same for contractual compliance, intellectual property, right of publicity, consumer protection and related legal issues. Consult with higher level lawyer as appropriate.
  • Liaise with internal business and creative clients, legal department contacts and other advisory departments within the company (e.g., Labor, Intellectual Property, Privacy, etc.) as well as external attorneys and talent representatives.
  • Review existing series and film agreements to determine rights and restrictions, and deliver such information to clients in a clear, concise manner.
  • Draft and negotiate agreements, amendments and other legal documentation for productions, events, pitches, clip licenses, graphics, spots, actors, writers, directors, below-the-line talent, amongst others, all within very short time frames.
  • Update and train clients regarding relevant internal processes and protocols.
  • Build, update, analyze, and handle forms and legal documents.
  • Help with special projects as assigned and approaching the same with a can-do attitude.


Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and sound judgment.
  • Strong drafting, organization and time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with marketing, programming and production agreements.
  • Excellent work ethic and interpersonal skills, including a healthy sense of humor and the ability to build professional, interdepartmental relationships.
  • Desire to immerse yourself fully and learn all aspects of the Hulu business.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize deadlines/deliverables.
  • Fast learner with excellent client service, including project ownership from start to finish.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to identify and analyze issues and devise solutions and strategies.
  • Strong understanding of contracts with the ability to draft contract language and to integrate business points into contracts.
  • An ability to independently manage one's workload but to ask for assistance when needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and other office-related software.


Education
  • J.D. degree or equivalent from an accredited law school
  • Admission to CA Bar Membership in good standing willingness and qualification to be Registered In-House Counsel.

The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, CA is $96,200 to $124,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
