This role requires full time on site presence.

Your role

Radio-Canada Northern Ontario is seeking a Reporter/Editor for the Sudbury newsroom. In this role, you will produce stories and perform editorial assignments related to the gathering, writing and presentation of program material for digital, audio and television platforms. Work is governed by CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic standards and programming policies. Advice and guidance are regularly available, but there is latitude for initiative and independent judgment. There is some requirement to coordinate the work of others.

Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as required (you might be assigned to a work shift that includes occasional or regular 7 :00a.m. starts or 9:00 p.m. finishes, or ongoing/rotating weekday and weekend shifts).
Key tasks:
  • Develop and maintain contact with a variety of sources.
  • Conduct analysis of facts and information gathered and draw conclusions or raise issues requiring further investigation.
  • Gather and report information from various sources.
  • Write digital articles and add interactive elements to make them more engaging.
  • Produce radio stories.
  • Report for Le Téléjournal Ontario.
  • Post content on social media.
  • Contribute ideas or program content; participate in the preparation of newsroom objectives.


As required, perform the following tasks:
  • Critically edit material written by others.
  • Liaise with other staff to ensure required material is available.
  • Present information and/or analysis on air in a variety of formats.
  • Follow specific areas of current public interest or concern.
  • Perform other production or administrative duties to ensure that the newsroom and programs run smoothly.


We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Two or more years' relevant experience during which the candidate would gain exposure to journalism, computers and the technology of radio/television broadcasting and digital services.
  • Capable of original and creative thought in the production of news for radio, TV and digital platforms, with demonstrated writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; good team player.
  • Comfortable with the demands and needs of television, radio and digital news production.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to handle a variety of functions quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to solve problems independently and in group discussions (openness to new ideas and approaches).
  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as required (you might be assigned to a work shift that includes occasional or regular 7 a.m. starts or 9 p.m. finishes, or ongoing/rotating weekday and weekend shifts).
  • Understanding of the structure and workflow of Radio-Canada News in regional centres, and ability to build and maintain strong relationships with counterparts in other centres.
  • Strong knowledge of Northern Ontario and the issues facing Franco-Ontarian communities.
  • Bilingualism is mandatory.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and ability to drive company vehicles as required.
