The Opportunity

The Boeing MQ-28 Ghost Bat is a globally-significant program that will deliver a disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities.

As we continue to accelerate the development program, and expand the aircraft flight envelope through the test program, we are seeking the very best talent from a diverse range of backgrounds to help grow and contribute to our innovative team.

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) are looking for a Composite Engineer to join our team supporting the cutting edge MQ-28 Ghost Bat program. In this role you will support the establishment and ongoing execution of the future full rate MQ28 production facility. We are looking for someone who will embrace our company's behaviours and is willing to innovate..

Boeing is taking another bold step in aerospace and advanced manufacturing. MQ28 is the first military aircraft to be designed, engineered and manufactured in Australia in more than 50 years. This unmanned teaming aircraft is Boeing's first military aircraft to be designed and developed outside the U.S and uses artificial intelligence to extend the capabilities of manned and unmanned platforms. This cutting edge project is aiming to unlock global Defence and aerospace opportunities for Boeing and Queensland.

This role is based at Wellcamp Airport, Toowoomba.

As a Composite Engineer within BDA, you will
  • Support transitioning the composites fabrication capability from our Melbourne facility to the new Toowoomba Wellcamp facility;
  • Refining the production system design for the composite fabrication;
  • Supporting the development and conduct of the qualification of the composite production system to ensure conformance to Boeing specifcations.
  • Conduct investigations on manufacturing processes to identify root cause of defects, propose and lead corrective action projects.
  • Provide technical guidance, ensuring personnel operate within technical guidelines.
  • Update and maintain materials and process specifications.
  • Ensure compliance to safety, regulatory and engineering requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver innovative quality solutions to deliver flightworthy parts to critical airplane milestones within a challenging schedule environment.
  • Develop, test and qualify composite materials and processes.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic manufacturing environment and have:
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering; specializing in Materials or Manufacturing Engineering will be highly regarded.
  • Previous experience in composite manufacturing / research is preferred but not essential.
  • Sufficient knowledge and experience of other related aerospace engineering disciplines to allow integration within a design activity.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement principles and practices is highly desirable.
  • Effective communication skills with different stakeholders across the business.
  • Works well with others and encourages team building.
  • Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assertive, self-motivated and capable of working with a high degree of initiative.
