Technical Operations is seeking a Director of Propulsion and Component Engineering. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operations of Delta's engines, APUs and components. The successful candidate will lead a diverse group of direct reports with a broad scope of responsibility in a complex environment. They must have a history of validated leadership and possess a high level of accountability for achieving strategic and operational results. The position will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering, Quality and Safety based in Atlanta, Georgia.
Primary Function:
- Accountable for implementation of all applicable federal and EASA regulations and mandated activity including airworthiness directives affecting propulsion and components.
- Collaborate with OEMs and regulatory agencies through the appropriate FAA contact points to Delta (Chief Engineer, Director of Quality Assurance).
- Develop both strategic and tactical plans which create a safety conscious environment that results in operational/employee safety and well-being.
- Identify and implement TechOps cost savings initiatives to build and maintain premier cost structures while ensuring safe operations and balancing operational reliability.
- Supporting TechOps strategic MRO vision.
- Supporting Supply Chain strategic vision and contract negotiations.
- Supporting TechOps Engine and Component Maintenance operations.
- Ensure oversight of technical projects and initiatives using metrics and action plans.
- Partner with Finance and Operations on project approval and implementation.
- Monitor engine/component performance for indication of negative trends, resolve root cause, develop first time-fix corrective actions, and implement solutions.
- Institutionalize the use of Predictive Maintenance to reduce cost and drive operational reliability.
- Develop a highly effective team that demonstrates ownership and is Innovative and collaborative.
- Develop highly effective cross-divisional relationships.
- Provide communication to Tech Ops Leadership for significant or emerging issues on assigned equipment and responsibilities.
- Promote the development of direct reports.
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
- Frontline operational leadership experience preferred.
- Candidate must be adept at interrogating data, performing cost/benefit analysis, and fostering change within the department.
- Experience in aviation industry component. support organizations or OEM roles in component performance to required specifications are a plus
- Must possess leadership, communication, and technical authoritative skills to be successful.
- Ability to think strategically and demonstrate sound decision making in a high pressure, time critical environment.
- Successful candidate will be a composed, empathic, and visible leader with the skill to build high performing teams.
- Must be a team player.
- Proven experience championing large, complex interdepartmental development efforts.
- Strong organizational leadership, influencing, and negotiating skills.
- Ability to multi-task and drive closure of open issues/concerns.
- Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
- Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
- Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
- Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
