You will lead the foundational work to create data infrastructures for Amazon to collect, measure, manage and reduce carbon emissions from third party transport suppliers. We cannot manage what we can't measure and this role will support Amazon's first automated and scalable solution to ingest sustainability data (emissions) from external carriers.

This will contribute to Amazon's Climate Pledge goal of being net carbon zero by 2040.

This role will require end to end ownership of working with several data transfer protocols (API, SFTP etc.), creation of data pipelines, automation, data transformation and modelling, data publishing and warehousing, data table management and insights visualisation (dashboard etc.). You work will also involve implementing industry solutions on this topic and exposure to AWS services. This role will involve both thinking and creating the architecture strategy and business logic alongside the implementation. This role provides good learning opportunity for a BIE or Data Engineer who wants to do data architecture strategic work, exposure to AWS services and emerging industry solutions in this space. Although not required as a competency, there will also be opportunity grow competencies in software development, DevOps and software frameworks (Django, React etc.) through cross collaboration work we do with AWS.

The role requires you to feel comfortable working with and clearly communicating with other functional teams and external stakeholders regionally and globally.

Key job responsibilities

- Work with multiple external data sources and data sharing protocols (API, SFTP) to automatically collect data from third party carriers
- Create the optimal architecture to scale ingestion mechanisms and data warehousing across teams and regions
- Perform data modelling and data transformation to make the data usable and actionable
- Work with downstream tech teams to transform data into formats required for carbon footprint update and end to end carbon intensity per package metrics
- Publish data tables and maintain data table health
- Lead workshops and updates with business and tech stakeholders
- Learn about AWS Sustainability Services that can support and accelerate solutions built for transport carbon emissions
- Have technical discussions with other BIE, SDEs, SDMs, Solution Architects, IT managers on trade-offs and design

Key job responsibilities
- Several years of SQL experience
- Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
- Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results
- Experience with AWS technologies
- Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
- Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
- Experience with SQL
- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- Experience in the data/BI space

A day in the life
It might be cliche, but there are no ordinary days. We are on a mission to elevate carbon emissions as a metric that Amazon will be able to manage alongside any other operational metric. We are building this capability from the ground up, not only for Amazon, but also ensuring scalable solutions which are applicable at the industry level.

A typical day includes engaging with one of our external carriers, internal tech teams or industry tech teams. We collaborate closely with AWS, WW Sustainability and other business orgs that also face similar data challenges.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
- Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
