The Busch Animal Outpost in Dade City, FL supports the breeding and population sustainability efforts of Busch Gardens Tampa. As a key member of our team, you'll play a major role in these conservation efforts at the off-site facility. If you are dedicated, dependable, and driven, this is the place for you!
What you get to do:
- Provide mental and physical stimulation to a variety of ungulate species
- Provide for animals' best welfare with attention to animal behavior, nutrition, and habitat maintenance
- Daily cleaning and maintenance of animal habitats and state-of-the-art husbandry facilities
- Maintain off-site property landscaping through operation of mowers, string trimmers, pruning tools, and various other devices
- Participation in animal management program planning and procedures
- Participation in animal health exams alongside the veterinary team
- Daily record keeping including ability to learn our electronic record-keeping program (TRACKS)
- Perform other duties as assigned according to business needs
What it takes to succeed:
- A positive, team-minded attitude and desire to give/receive constructive criticism
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) allowing for effective communication with teammates and management
- College degree in Biology, Zoology, Behavior Analysis, Psychology, or related field preferred
- Previous experience with animal husbandry and herd dynamics preferred
- Skills/experience in mechanical, electrical, and carpentry trades preferred
- Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals, procedural manuals, and written materials pertaining to husbandry and animal management
- A strong work ethic with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities appropriately and apply creative problem-solving skills when required
- Excellent observational skills with the ability to work in a changing environment
What else is important:
- 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving guidelines required.
- Able to work at least 28 hours a week
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to include weekdays, weekends, evenings, holidays, and some overnights
- Must be able to stand, walk, and work in a physically demanding work environment for prolonged periods of time in a variety of weather conditions (i.e. extreme heat, cold, rain)
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. repeatedly on a frequent basis
- Must be willing to comply with, and ensure ambassadors comply with, all SEA grooming guidelines and employment standards
- Must be able to successfully complete all legal, company, and department training requirements to include, but not limited to, passing required tests and certifications within established timelines.
