WPHL-TV, part of the Nexstar Media Group and CW Network, has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Broadcast Engineer. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of all systems that relate to broadcast television. The Broadcast Engineer is an onsite position located at WPHL-TV in Philadelphia. Candidates must be able to work 24-30 hours per work week. The weekly work schedule will be determined by the Engineer and department manager.

Responsibilities:
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs hardware and systems used for broadcasting and local news production.
  • Maintain all broadcast technology and equipment for the station.
  • Installs and tests new systems and technical infrastructure for the station.
  • Minimizes service interruptions during times of equipment and/or system failure by rapidly identifying and implementing solutions .
  • Maintains transmission links between studio location and transmitter location.
  • Conducts operator training.
  • Communicates with other members of the Engineering, IT team, and other departments to effectively resolve equipment and system issues.
  • Ability to read signal flow drawings and trouble shoot problems quickly.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Skills:
  • Minimum 5 years of practical broadcast engineering experience.
  • Technical degree in Broadcasting, Electronics, Computer Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Experience with video, audio, IP acquisition and encoding/decoding equipment.
  • Experience with microwave equipment, satellite antennas / receivers and other broadcast-related equipment.
  • Experience with file- based acquisition, editing, storage, transfer, and transcoding systems.
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, and other office equipment.
  • Fluency in English. Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Work Environment:
  • Must be able to work under pressure.
  • Early morning work hours required, and possibly some holidays.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds.
  • Must join local union after 30 days of employment.
