Job Summary:

The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the United States Sports Academy is responsible for overseeing all aspects of strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes within the university's athletic department. This role involves designing and implementing evidence-based strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs to enhance athletic performance, reduce the risk of injury, and promote overall physical development. The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach also provides leadership, supervision, and mentorship to future graduate assistants and interns within the strength and conditioning staff.

USSA sponsors men's soccer, women's soccer, women's volleyball, baseball, softball, and track and field. The university is looking to compete in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.

Key Responsibilities:

1.Develop comprehensive strength and conditioning programs tailored to the individual needs and sport-specific demands of student-athletes.

2.Incorporate periodization principles, exercise science research, and performance assessment data to optimize training effectiveness and progressions.

3.Design and supervise strength training, speed development, agility drills, plyometrics, flexibility exercises, and conditioning workouts.

4.Conduct baseline assessments, performance evaluations, and functional movement screenings to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement among student-athletes.

5.Utilize technology and data analytics tools to track and monitor athletes' progress, workload, recovery, and readiness to train.

6.Collaborate with sports medicine staff to address injury prevention, rehabilitation, and return-to-play considerations within the context of strength and conditioning programs.

7.Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to strength and conditioning graduate assistants and interns.

8.Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes accountability, communication, and professional development.

9.Coordinate scheduling, staffing assignments, and facility usage to ensure efficient and effective delivery of strength and conditioning services.

10.Educate student-athletes on proper exercise technique, nutrition, hydration, recovery strategies, sleep hygiene, and lifestyle habits conducive to optimal performance.

11.Collaborate with coaches and sports medicine staff to integrate strength and conditioning principles into overall athletic development programs.

12.Communicate regularly with coaches, athletic trainers, and other stakeholders to provide updates on athletes' progress, injury status, and performance-related concerns.

13.Ensure the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of strength and conditioning facilities and equipment.

14.Oversee inventory management, procurement, and maintenance of exercise equipment, weights, machines, and training accessories.

15.Implement policies and procedures for facility access, equipment usage, and hygiene protocols in compliance with institutional guidelines and industry standards.

16.Instruct courses in our Sports Performance program for Bachelor's and/ or Master's program (if of interest and qualified).

17.Additional duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, and/ or Athletic Director.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, or related field preferred.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or equivalent credential.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in collegiate strength and conditioning.
  • Strong knowledge of exercise physiology, biomechanics, sports nutrition, and sports psychology principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with coaches, sports medicine professionals, and other members of the athletic department.
  • Proficiency in using technology and performance tracking software for data analysis and program management.
