About the role

We are looking for multiple Millwrights to join the BC Works Aluminum Smelter & Services Maintenance teams. The Millwright position provides construction, installation, relocation, repair, and preventative maintenance on machinery, equipment, and facilities. Specific work schedule can vary based on the department, but typically can include a rotating roster with 12-hour shifts, nights, and weekends.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, and working within our Smelter Operations & Services Maintenance teams, your responsibilities will include:
  • Adhering to and promoting Rio Tinto's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards while actively engaging in our culture of care, courage, and curiosity.
  • Coordinating Millwright functions with overall plant operations, preparing parts lists and ordering and retrieving parts as needed
  • Diagnosing and repairing different types of rotating and conveying equipment, including pumps, elevators, screw conveyors, belting, material handling, and centrifuges and hydro generators
  • Using power and hand equipment, performing varied types of rigging, often at heights which require climbing and the use of safety equipment i.e., harness, lanyard, personnel-lifts, scissor-lifts
  • Keeping your work area safe, clean, and well maintained. Taking timely action to correct unsafe work conditions
  • Maintaining a continuous improvement focus by developing and participating in the implementation of solutions for the work area
  • Working effectively and communicating respectfully

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to everyone's safety
  • An Interprovincial Red Seal Millwright certificate of qualification
  • Experience repairing industrial equipment
  • Mechanical aptitude and skills in rigging, fabricating, repairing equipment and welding. Rigging equipment such as wire rope, chokers, synthetic slings, cable clamps, hooks, shackles, and other rigging apparatus
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings
  • Capacity to give accurate crane signals, calculate loads and rig correctly (training is provided)
  • A valid driver's license (minimum of B.C. Class 7 Novice)
  • Willingness to work shift schedules, including rotating 12-hour shifts (rosters include both days, nights, and weekends)
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively
