Summary

Research Internship in Diabetic Retinal Diseases

Dr. Jayasundera, a retinal specialist and researcher, and Dr. Fresco, a distinguished professor of psychiatry, are excited to announce a rewarding one-year research internship opportunity for a motivated individual seeking to gain admission to medical school.

The focus of this internship is to develop a comprehensive patient-reported outcomes (PRO) instrument for diabetic retinal diseases. This instrument will assess various factors such as visual disabilities, anxiety related to vision impairment, challenges in glucose control affecting retinal disease management, and experiences with ophthalmological treatments and appointments.

As a research intern, you will play a crucial role in the creation of this new PRO instrument, contributing to innovative solutions in the management of diabetic retinal diseases. The internship will provide a holistic experience, including drafting manuscripts for publication in esteemed peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at conferences. Responsibilities*

  • Participate in subject recruitment
  • Assist in the writing of Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications
  • Follow the FDA-approved process for developing a new PRO instrument
  • Draft manuscripts for publication
  • Present research findings at conferences


Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor?s degree


Desired Qualifications*

  • Degree preferably with an interest in research and science background
  • Good communication skills
  • Previous research experience


Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
