Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance. Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians. Unposting Date: 2024-05-09 11:59 PM The North is a place some of us are fortunate enough to call home, a place of culture, tradition, heart-wrenching challenges, perseverance and innovation. The Yukon was built around stories whispered, sung, shared around the circles of campfires. As journalists and members of communities ourselves, we work to acknowledge the sweat and toil, tragedies, wisdom, resilience and joy, all of which shape the social, political, economic and natural topography of the territory. Indigenous peoples are increasingly speaking out to claim their rights and assert their influence. Emerging immigrant communities are planting roots. It is a territory in transition, where there's space to learn, to experience, to travel, to build and sustain a career and a life. Be prepared to fall in love with all things local. This role requires full time on site presence. Your role CBC North is looking for an energetic, creative Reporter/Editor to take on a vital programming role with our audio shows. Based in Whitehorse, this reporter-editor position will form part of an experienced team of hosts, producers and reporters that puts together sounds, stories and segments for our daily shows, Yukon Morning, Midday Cafe and Airplay. The successful candidate will contribute community-based storytelling to our programs with a focus on compelling presentation and characters that represent the breadth of voices and perspectives in our listening area. You'll pitch ideas, guest interviews and story treatments and - with the direction and support of a producer and editorial leadership -- bring programming to light and life. The reporter/editor assigned to our audio shows will appear regularly on air, doing live hits, in-studio debriefs, and short documentaries. You'll also collaborate and regularly contribute to digital, visual and social platforms to ensure our coverage is vibrant, relevant, responsive and serves the widest possible audience. As required, you'll edit material created by others and perform other production or administrative tasks associated with the smooth functioning of the shows and the newsroom. You'll experience the rush and professional fulfillment of providing people with the information and insight they rely on to navigate the world. There will also sometimes be the unglamorous grind of daily programming when the story chase is sluggish and no one seems to be answering their phones or responding to texts or email. You'll get a chance to be creative and thoughtful and to challenge yourself to produce journalism that stretches your horizons, journalism that matters to our audiences. As the media industry evolves and audiences shift the ways they interact with us as a public broadcaster, it's a time when local news and community storytelling are more important than ever. As a candidate for this position, you'll show us your instincts and skills for finding and producing stories and for building connection and trust. You'll also be able to show us that you've already started learning about the diverse and changing population of the Yukon. You've thought about new ways to reflect all our communities in our content. You live and promote an inclusive and respectful work culture. You're a wellspring of initiative and you also love collaborating with your colleagues. You're proud and passionate and humble. The work we get to do isn't about us as individuals. It's about what we create together. All work will be governed by CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices. Who you are:
