This job is open to Clarification from the agency Duties This position is located at the USCG National Maritime Center (NMC), Martinsburg, WV, an independent Headquarters Field Command. The incumbent is a Section Chief within the Mariner Evaluation Division and serves as the MCP expert on the safety and suitability vetting processes. Responsible for the supervision of the processes involved in the background investigations of all MMC applicants, including comprehensive criminal record reviews, referral of positive drug test results for action, national driver registry search results, immigration documentation, and the review of applicants' disclosure of all such items on the applications. Qualifications To qualify for the GS-11 grade level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience is the experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to this line of work. OR Completed a Ph.D., or at least 54 semester hours toward a Ph.D., in a field that is directly related to the duties of this position OR Combination of directly related work experience and graduate level education. GS-11 applicants must have completed more than 2 full years of graduate level education in order to use this option to qualify. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
