Duties

This position is located under the Office of Intelligence Operations, Criminal Intelligence Division, Analysis Production Branch in Washington, District of Columbia.

The primary purpose of this position is to perform work in the collection, analyses, evaluation, interpretation, and dissemination of information on conditions, trends force in foreign and domestic areas that directly or indirectly affect the national security. Performs as an all-source intelligence analyst with responsibility for the project and activities within a specifically defined geographical or functional area of responsibility.

As a Intelligence Research Specialist, GS-0132-9, your typical work assignments may include:
  • Conducting analytical research on criminal or regulatory related data and generating informational reports.
  • Identifying and selecting appropriate software for use in automating various charts, graphs, etc. for use in cases, trials and hearings.
  • Conducting routine intelligence-related tasks in support of ongoing investigative inspection and intelligence activities for the assigned office.
  • Conducting some analysis of database information and produces output.

This is a non-bargaining unit position.

MOBILITY PLAN : New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement. The purpose of ATF's mobility policy is to enhance career development and progression, and achieve mission and business effectiveness. To accomplish these objectives, the mobility plan will facilitate the movement of employees through special short-term assignments or permanent reassignments throughout the Bureau. Applicants who decline to sign a mobility agreement, as required, will be removed from the hiring process.
Key Requirements:

Qualifications

This is a non-bargaining unit position.

To qualify for GS-9, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-7.

Additional Conditions of Employment:

GS-9 - You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing the following duties:
  • Accessing local and national intelligence information databases to respond to less-complex requests for intelligence information; and
  • Assisting in the maintenance of computerized intelligence databases; and
  • Generating statistical/relational reports; and
  • Collecting operational intelligence reports from various Federal, State and Local government and law enforcement agencies.

OR

Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

LL.B. or J.D., if related.

OR

A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience to qualify for this position. Only graduate level education in excess of one year (i.e., 18 semester hours) may be combined with experience under this standard. If using education to qualify, must provide a copy of unofficial or official transcripts.
