THE POSITION

The Director of Finance and Accounting is the key financial strategist and working director for the association reporting directly to the General Manager. The Director of Finance and Accounting is responsible for complete oversight, management and leadership of all finance, accounting duties, and investments. Tahoe Donner is looking for an individual committed to continuing to nurture the rich history of the association while also being an agent of change and improvement. Partnering with the General Manager and executive leadership team, the Director of Finance and Accounting will champion the standards of excellence and company culture while following and ensuring sound financial policies and procedures, implementing best practices and internal controls, and providing clear, concise, and readily understood financial reports and projections for all audiences.

The key focus areas for this position over the coming years are:

  • Provide excellent leadership with integrity, management, mentorship, and staff development within the Finance department and across the organization.
  • Live the principle of collaboration and teamwork with internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Deep understanding of the 27 business centers and collaborate with mid-level management to develop their business models with an eye on cost-savings and increasing operating leverage.
  • Support and collaborate with the capital projects department in refining long-term financial planning and implementing the Capital Improvement Plan.
  • Improve and deliver on organizational performance metrics and reporting.
  • Timely presentation and interpretation of financial results and forecasts.
  • Analysis of planned and contemplated changes to recreation operations, facilities, trends, and business opportunities.
  • Continue best practices in finance and accounting for excellent audit reporting, while addressing any audit findings and execute on implementation and monitoring of internal controls to ensure strong financial standing and consistency across the association.
  • Analyze and improve the budget process

COMPENSATION + BENEFITS PROGRAM

The starting salary will be commensurate with the experience, qualifications, and skills of the successful candidate within the salary range. Annual salary range DOE: MIN $217,550 - MAX $295,000

Paid Time Off (PTO) – For the first 5 years of service, employee is entitled to 10 vacation days and 9 holidays each year, totaling 19 days, accrued semi-monthly. Additional PTO is earned at 5 years of services and 10 years of service.

Sick Leave – Available to all eligible employees for periods of temporary absence due to illnesses or injuries, accrued at the rate of 10 days per year.

Qualifications

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We seek a team-oriented and seasoned candidate to function as the association’s primary financial executive and resource to the association’s management, committees, and board of directors. The association is looking for a dynamic, inspiring financial leader who can:

  • Engage, mentor, and lead teams
  • Demonstrate high emotional intelligence and communication skills
  • Ability to meet the employees and members in the office and in the field including on trail or at the amenities
  • Be highly visible and active with the association membership to build trust and consensus
  • Face financial challenges head-on with a fiscally conservative and innovative mindset
  • Be innovative and have a life-long learning mindset
  • Proven approach for proactive short and long-term planning and implementation

EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE

A combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university in accounting, finance, or equivalent
  • A Master's Degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting is desirable
  • 8 to 10 years of professional level experience in senior level financial and or accounting positions; two years at the senior level is required managing an operating fund of $10 million and above, and capital or maintenance projects at minimum of $5 million, preferred $10 million
  • 5-10 years resort, recreation and/or hospitality experience preferred

License/Certifications

  • Valid Driver’s License (Required)
