  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • Works under the supervision of the Manager of Medical Imaging. The Radiology Technologist's primary job function is to perform a variety of diagnostic procedures utilizing all aspects of diagnostic equipment. Responsible for producing quality diagnostic radiography images. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education:

      • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
      • Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology required
    • Licensure:

      • ARRT(R) Required
      • Ohio(R) Required
      • BLS within 90 days of hire required.
      • ARRT(R)/Ohio(R)/Kentucky(R) eligible. Must be licensed within 90 days of hire.
      • Kentucky(R) Required, if working in Kentucky.
    • Experience:

      • Three months of on the job training preferred
    • Interpersonal Skills:

      • Ability to interact effectively with patients, patient family members, co-workers, and physicians. Effectively supports the mission and demonstrates the values of SOMC by honoring the dignity and worth of each person. Shows concern and respect for others by dealing with customers and co-workers in a compassionate, sensitive, and responsive manner.
    • Essential Technical/Motor Skills:

      • Hand/eye coordination in order to perform examinations using complex equipment using precise calibrations.
    • Essential Physical Requirements:

      • Ability to maneuver objects, equipment, and patients for examinations. Physical demand is medium, occasionally carrying 50 pounds. May transport patients weighing in excess of 400 pounds with assistance. Stands and/or walks, with normal breaks, for six to eight hours per day while performing procedures on patients and moving equipment. Sits for one to three hours per day. Ability to use hands for simple grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling. Ability to use either foot for repetitive movement. Climbing and crawling are occasionally required, while bending and squatting are frequently required. Continuously reaches above shoulder level. Frequently exerts 22-32 pounds of push or pull force to position patients or equipment. Required to manipulate up to 40 pounds when pushing portable x-ray equipment.
    • Essential Mental Requirements:

      • Analytical skills necessary to produce high quality diagnostic radiography images. Frequently may work without assistance. Must continuously contend with the general public, internal and external customers, must meet deadlines under pressure and concentrate on detail.

      • Good vision. Ability to hear and speak clearly
    • Exposure to Hazards:

      • Exposure to radiation producing equipment, sharps, infectious diseases, body fluids and aggressive patients.

  • JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
    • The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

      • Prepares patient for examination, obtaining appropriate medical history.
      • Assesses provider order prior to completing examination.
      • Produces and submits high-quality digital radiographic images, fluoroscopic images and intraoperative images.
      • Greet customers courteously and professionally.
      • Responds to customer service complaints or issues (following AHEART model).
      • Participates in team huddles and meetings.
      • Promptly communicates equipment failure or issues to manager.
      • Responsible for cleanliness and stocking supplies in assigned area.
      • Documents pertinent information to assist Radiologist interpretation.
      • Reports all equipment malfunctions and performs equipment QC as required.
      • Performs PI monitoring as required.
      • Assists in the training of Radiography Students and newer, less experienced employees.
      • Behaves in a professional manner (includes not abusing telephone/internet privileges and breaks, socializing and being consistently punctual, etc.). Acknowledges and adheres to the "Standards of Behavior" handbook.
      • Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy
      • Transports patients as needed and performs other duties as assigned.
      • Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU's.
