Who you are:

The Director, Host Relations is responsible for the performance of a group of International Recruitment Specialists to ensure job sales goals are met in a way that aligns with CIEE's mission and values. The Director is responsible for staff management, sales management, host support, and other projects as needed that align with the departmental strategic plans and goals.


What you’ll do:

1) Manage a team of Sales Managers and the International Recruitment Specialists that report to them. Provide leadership so that the team will effectively execute sales plans and meet or exceed sales goals. 

  • Develop a sales and marketing strategy to ensure that CIEE meets its sales and placement goals for Work & Travel USA and Camp Exchange USA.
  • Coach managers to help their staff develop effective sales strategies, hiring strategies, and strong relationships with host employers and community organizations.
  • Ensure that managers and salespeople have the requisite knowledge and skills in the sales process including lead generation, cold calling, appointments, presentations, and obtaining commitments.
  • Provide timely and specific feedback on performance to team members.
  • Track and evaluate weekly, monthly, and annual progress.
  • Perform annual performance setting and goals reviews for each direct report along with quarterly check-in reviews to check individual goal progress.
  • Keeping VP, Seasonal Exchanges informed of progress against goals and any significant opportunities or risks that arise.

2) Contribute to the placement and hiring services process.

  • Maintain close communication with VP Seasonal Exchanges, Operations Director, and Director International Sales & Operations.
  • Ensure that the sales team properly consults hosts on hiring strategies that are in line with CIEE participant availability and market demands.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure placement goals are met.

3) Engage in high-level sales activities.

  • Sell to prospective and current clients as required.
  • Create and conduct presentations and meetings with hosts, associations, and other stakeholders.

4) Build rapport with clients and stakeholders.

  • Ensure that sales managers review jobs and hosts to ensure that they are in line with U.S. Department of State regulations, CIEE compliance standards, and CIEE's mission, vision, and values. Collaborate with the compliance team as needed.
  • Collaborate with Participant Services to help facilitate positive participant program experiences and team communication.
  • With the involvement of VP Seasonal Exchanges, evaluate relationships and participation with industry groups, area Chambers of Commerce, and community organizations that either impact community participants or provide future sales growth.
  • When necessary, collaborate with Director International Sales & Operations to foster relationships with International Representatives.
  • Review external events, such as trade shows, International Student Outreach Program events, and other activities to determine participation that will add to the growth of the programs and support sales.
  • In collaboration with the VP Seasonal Exchanges, Operations Director, Director International Sales & Operations, and other Seasonal Exchanges Managers, identify CIEE run/branded events or programming that will add stakeholder value to the program.

5) Additional responsibilities.

  • Willingness to travel required; regular business trips include domestic trips and overseas hiring events (10-20%).
  • With the involvement of VP Seasonal Exchanges, Operations Director, and Director International Sales & Operations to identify and prioritize IT solutions and enhancements that will add value and efficiency to the program for all stakeholders.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


What you’ll bring:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A minimum of 3 - 6 years of previous sales success is required, B2B and human capital solutions are preferred.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of management experience preferred.
  • Ability to draw conclusions and create a strategy based on metrics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail required.
  • Proactive and preferred for working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with remote field staff.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information to draw conclusions and solve problems efficiently.
  • Energetic, personable, goal, and team-oriented.
  • Tolerance for ambiguity and sense of humor.
  • Technology proficiency required — experience with Microsoft Suite, Teams, and Salesforce, preferred.
  • Innovative, creative, and flexible to a changing environment.
