Summary:  

The FSQA Specialist will provide oversight and observation of third-party personnel being contracted by Trident to perform various post season handling of canned salmon items; including but not limited to finished product labeling and sensory evaluation.

 

Essential functions (responsibilities, tasks, supervisory needs)

  • Participates and oversees all labeling related services being provided by third party warehouse contractor at Salmon Terminals (including but not limited to standard labeling operations of all Trident canned items, special handling orders and inspections, Red Tag Bulletin evaluations, etc.)
  • Observes all finished canned salmon product organoleptic testing being performed by third party Processing Authority at Seafood Products Association (SPA)
  • Signs and authorizes all necessary product release records in a timely manner that does not disrupt warehouse operations or further distribution of canned items, while maintaining integrity and legality for Trident Seafoods and consumers
  • Completes and retains all documentation pertinent to labeling operations, food safety & legality, quality, supplier performance, primary facility performance
  • Coordinates the scheduling of relevant activity with SPA and Salmon Terminals to ensure adequate attendance for observation of product testing results, labeling efforts, and special handling evaluations.  Communicates scheduling with Trident Manufacturing and Sales Department.
  • Provide performance feedback to Alaska FSQA and Primary Operations management team, reporting back KPI information to the original cannery – result of inspections, release of red tags and special ordering instructions, grading results, etc.
  • Report observations of all third-party activities (including testing results, scheduling, methodology, and other concerns) immediately to FSQA Director Alaska Operations and/or FSQA Senior Manager Alaska Operations
  • Requires travel between Salmon Terminals (Auburn, WA) and SPA testing facility (Seattle, WA)

Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

  • Minimum of 1 year of seasonal work experience in seafood processing.
  • Must be MS Office proficient – including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision
  • Must have valid State issued Driver’s License and personal transportation  

 

Preferred education and experience

  • Canned Salmon processing preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • HACCP Certification
  • Better Process Control School
  • Other seafood processing special training

 

Work environment:

This job takes place in a typical office environment: temperature controlled with adequate lighting, and has moderate noise. 

 

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch. May occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
