The University will engage multiple part-time bus drivers to drive a 29 passenger (or smaller vehicles) provided by the University for school related events. Drivers will work with the Assistant to the Mail Center Manager and Procurement Clerk to set up individual schedules which meet the needs of the University and which comply with DOT regulations. Additionally, the University will pay for meals consumed during the trip and for hotel costs should an overnight stay be necessary. The University will pay for fuel, maintenance and insurance for the vehicles used.

Some trips will require travel during the day, at night, on weekends and/or overnight.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Work with the Assistant to the Mail Center Manager and Procurement Clerk to identify appropriate event trips to which the driver will be assigned.
  • Develop a trip plan for each assigned event which will be reviewed and approved by the Assistant to the Mail Center Manager and Procurement Clerk prior to the event.
  • Conduct safety inspection of assigned vehicle prior to driving and identify to the Assistant to the Mail Center Manager and Procurement Clerk the need for maintenance or repair.
  • Drive assigned vehicle and passengers to the assigned school event, remain available )but not necessarily attend or participate int he event) during the event, and drive the assigned vehicle and passengers back to the University following the event.
  • Driver will be assigned a corporate commercial credit card for each assigned event and will use the card to pay for fuel, required repairs, driver's meals and driver's hotel room. Driver will return the card to the Assistant to the Mail Center Manager and Procurement Clerk at the end of the trip along with all relevant receipts.
  • For particularly lengthy trips, drivers may be assigend to partner in a team for a trip. Duties will be shared equally by the drivers.
  • For each trip, the driver will maintain a trip log clearly auditing driving and non-driving hours as required by DOT regulations.

Skills & Abilities
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. (General Education Diploma) required.
Experience: Driving vehicles at least the length of a school bus.
Communication/Language: Ability to read, listen to and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write and communicate simple correspondance.
Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills for online timecard entry.
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations: Must have a current CDL (A or B) class driver's license with DOT certified passenger endorsement and physically certified designation.
