This is a Wednesday through Sunday shift, 7am-3:30pm.

Job Summary: Maintains and services Transport Refrigeration Units in railcars.  Conducts equipment inspections and performs diagnostic tests to determine unit readiness and/or deficiencies.  Performs installs, repairs, adjustments and replacement of refrigeration components, such as compressors, engines, coils, and electrical systems. Enhances service department and organizations reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing work that meets and exceeds customer expectations.  Practices and promotes a safety culture.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determines unit condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventative maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion.  These tasks include frequent climbing, material handling, bending/stooping, kneeling, squatting, overhead reaching, occasional use of a crane.
  • Corrects system deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as, Engines,  Electrical repairs, Electronic diagnostic trouble shooting and repair, exhaust and fuel system repair.  This includes frequent to constant work on elevated surfaces, frequent upper extremely reaching and overhead work, material handling and sometimes push/pull material handling, occasional climbing, bending, squatting, and/or stooping, kneeling, crawling, and occasional use of a crane.
  • Verifies equipment performance by conducting system tests, and downloads.
  • Maintains unit appearance by cleaning and washing.
  • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operational instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventative maintenance; and making needed repairs.
  • Keeps shop and work area clean and free of clutter.
  • Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating services and repairs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
  • Enhances contract service department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required and is compliant with Safety procedures.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with other team members and learn from experienced Technicians.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed or assigned by management.

 

Job Requirements:

Aptitude in a technical and mechanical role and willingness to learn about Transport Refrigeration Units (TRU’s).

Ability to safely and successfully perform and/all essential job functions.

Capacity to demonstrate technical knowledge of refrigeration systems, materials, methods and tools to perform, prioritize and complete work.

Ability to meet and maintain all qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Utilize critical thinking skills, problem solving abilities, and exercises good judgment when completing tasks in an efficient, correct and productive manner.

Coordinate tools, resources and equipment to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

Active listening skills, oral/written comprehension and commitment to perform quality service.

Basic computer and data entry skills for Windows based software programs e.g. Dossier software a plus. Knowledge of Microsoft office suite: Outlook, Word helpful.

Compliance with all personnel policies and practices.

Ability to work alone for extended periods and in teams.

May work in extreme heat or cold and inclement weather.

Attendance and punctuality are essential job functions.  Employees must arrive to work prior to the scheduled shift start time, while not taking unscheduled and unauthorized absences as determined by company and departmental guidelines.
