| Profile: | Mad River Glen Cooperative is a cooperatively run ski area. This means that it has many owners who will interact with you daily on your job. It is a rugged mountain serviced by 4 lifts, one being a single chair built in 1948, the year the ski area opened. Snow making covers only lower run outs and the base area so it is a “natural snow” area. Our terrain has been nationally ranked consistently in the top ten for steeps, challenges and moguls over the last 10 years. Our slogan of “Ski It If You Can” is well earned. Real skiers passionately appreciate the mountain and it has become the eastern Mecca for free heelers, telemark skiing. We are 1 of 4 ski areas in the country that do not allow snowboarding. We operate a base lodge, The Basebox, which houses our cafeteria, General Stark’s Pub, our bar and restaurant. The base lodge also houses the ski school that has excellent children’s programs and instructors certified in alpine and telemark techniques. We also run a nursery, The Cricket Club, for children age 6months to 4 years old. In addition to these services Mad River Glen offers a complete rental and repair shop as well as a retail ski shop, Alpine Options. Working at Mad River Glen is fun and different than working at many of the big resorts. There is no lodging as part of the ski area. We are just a ski area. Most of our staff returns each year with many staff members having skied and worked here for over 20 years. We operate as a team with a family spirit. |
