GENERAL EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION: Timberline Lodge is at the 6,000-foot level of Mt. Hood, with sweeping views of eastern Oregon. The main lodge has 71 rooms for overnight guests, and the newer lodge houses the day activities such as the ski school, gift shop, cafeteria, and ski rentals.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: Year-round NUMBER OF HIRES: 350 TYPES OF POSITIONS: Food service staff, Bar and drink staff, Machine operators, Activities attendants, Maintenance staff, Housekeepers and room attendants, Hotel and front desk staff, Receptionists and secretaries, Ski rental shop, food service, retail, maintenance, ski instructors, maintenance crew, housekeeping, chairlift operators, ski patrol, parking lot attendants, trail grooming, administrative and other miscellaneous positions

NUMBER OF SUMMER NEW HIRES: Very few

POSITIONS AVAILABLE IN SUMMER: The same as in wintertime, but most positions are shifted to lodge work. Because one lift stays open all summer, some lift and mountain crew are still needed

HOUSING POLICY: Roughly forty rooms are available at the lodge for employees, but they're very hard to get, so most employees rent places in the nearby towns of Government Camp, Hood River, Sandy, or Portland.

BENEFITS: Benefits vary according to the position held and length of employment. After a probationary period, most employees are eligible for a medical and dental plan.
