Camp K on Kenai Lake
Our co-ed, residential camp for youth is nestled along the shores of beautiful Kenai Lake near Cooper Landing where the scenery blends rustic Alaskan wilderness with updated facilities. Our camp has a unique mix of traditional and specialty camp programs for youth age 6-17, including camps with accommodations for children with family, behavioral, or medical challenges.
What we do: Primary duties are to foster positive youth development in a community of caring adults and peers through skill development and leadership opportunities in the outdoors. Age-appropriate programs include overnight campouts, campfires with stories, skits, songs and games, outdoor cooking, evening programs, nature and survival, target sports (archery, riflery, atl-atls, blowguns), group, teambuilding and field games, arts and crafts, drama, swimming, boating, hiking, and off-camp trips rafting and horseback riding. Special opportunities to become a "Polar Bear," be a "Book Worm," or "Crazy Utensil Dinner" provide new surprises each week.
Who we need: A successful staff member at Camp K exhibits a positive attitude, flexibility, and a willingness to provide a high quality of customer service to campers, fellow staff, parents, visitors, community members, and user groups. Experience in outdoor pursuits, such as camping and hiking is helpful, but more important is a willingness to learn and lead these activities with positivity throughout all types of weather! We reside in a close, residential community where you will be expected to act as a positive role model with professionalism throughout your stay, and to sacrifice some personal privacy and comforts through shared sleeping, shower, and eating facilities.
Lifeguard (1 Position):
In addition to Counselor duties, the lifeguard will work with the Waterfront Leader to provide instruction in boating (canoe and kayak), swimming, and water survival activities on Kenai Lake. Duties include lifeguarding, maintaining program supplies and inventory, assisting with the supervision and monitoring of campers and cabins.
Pay Rate: $2500-$2600 plus room for the season.
Requirements: Minimum age of 18; current lifeguard, wilderness first aid and CPR/AED for the professional rescuer (Wilderness First Aid certification will be offered at a cost to employee during orientation); previous experience working in a day/resident camp or other youth development program; ability to plan and facilitate activities; ability to be trained in specialized program areas and pass necessary skill assessments.
