OVERALL SUMMARY HBO is looking for an enthusiastic, skilled Senior Software Engineer / Java Developer to work with the application development team in collaboration with HBO's Broadcast Operations, Creative Services and Sports groups. HBO's Broadcast operations department is responsible for all phases of broadcasting content. IT supports this group from the quality assurance of our digital assets on through to the encryption of our broadcast signal. HBO's Creative Services department focuses on the creation of Promotional content for all HBO programming. We support the tracking of their operations and personnel related to the Promo creation process. We also support the HBO Sports group in the use of cutting-edge technologies in association with professional athletes, as well as the merchandising of our own highly praised Sports documentaries and shows. This Java developer position requires very strong Java coding skills and the desire to learn new and existing technologies. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • Work within a technically strong team to design and build new systems as well as support and enhance current systems • Develop and maintain architecturally sound, modular, component-driven Java applications • Support HBO internal customers with Broadcast/ Affiliate related issues • Create, maintain and organize system & design documentation, test plans, etc • Participate in off-hour support for 24/7 systems on an as-needed basis REQUIREMENTS Essential Skills: • Strong communications and critical thinking skills. • Solid foundation in trouble-shooting application and data issues • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task and assess priority. • Ability to fit into a team-orientated environment with a positive influence • Ability to handle changes in business requirements and priorities across multiple projects. Serve as points of contact between IT and HBO internal clients, and between groups within IT Technical Skills: • 4+ years Java J2EE with complex multi-layer applications • Strong working knowledge of Spring/Hibernate • Working knowledge of JSPs/JQuery/HTML5/JSR168 or equivalent Web UI framework • Experience with SOA architecture and/or ESB's/BPM tools • Strong working knowledge of SQL • Excellent object-oriented design & programming skills, including working knowledge and experience in using UML and design patterns • Experience with IDE's such as IntelliJ or Eclipse, and tools such CVS/Maven, etc • Knowledge of EJB 2.0 and or swing is a plus • Knowledge of Weblogic/JBoss a plus About Us It's HBO SM America's most successful premium television company, Home Box Office delivers two 24-hour pay television services-HBO ® and Cinemax ® .
