Duties: • Cargo Operations Manager (Port Everglades, FL) • Crowley is looking for a Cargo Operations Manager to oversee cargo and port operations. • Responsible for managing cargo related operations for a particular business line or major project. Responsible for the direction and interpretation of company policies and procedures. Has direct and frequent contact with the customer to determine the customer’s operational needs. Prepares cost estimates and proposed operations plans for review by business line manager before presenting to customer. Frequent contact with Marine Operations and Maintenance personnel. Prepares stowage, stability and ballast plans. Arranges necessary support equipment for loading or discharging operations. Ensures all applicable regulations are followed for personnel safety and handling of hazardous cargoes. Maintains contact with customer during the course of the job to determine if all requirements being met. Provides documentation of job progress and activities to business unit manager for invoicing customer. Participates in post job meetings with customers to determine areas needing improvement. Expected to be a leader in safety, develop and grow highly effective team, provide regulatory and company training to his team and the department laborers, act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and other Crowley terminals, monitor and improve terminal productivity and facilitate integration of all terminal departments into the cargo group functions. Required travel to multiple locations away from homeport.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from a maritime academy preferred. At least 15 years of related experience may substitute for a degree.
Work Experience: REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: Minimum 10 years experience in marine cargo operations. Union supervisory experience required. Experience in the administration of policies and Collective Bargaining Agreements. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Must possess skill sets and demonstrate proven experience developing, improving and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives. Requires the ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Required to work outside of the office environment on a frequent basis. When working outside can work in conditions of both hot and cold temperatures. Exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical and electrical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment and conditions. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom. Ability to climb ladders to oversee operations and the occasional carrying of up to 50 pounds. Travel, weekend work, “on-call” status and irregular/unpredictable schedule are essential job requirements. Must comply with all work rules, including those pertaining to safety and health.
