Basic Purpose of Job: Machinist works independently, posses skills necessary to fabricate complex mechanical components to exacting tolerances on manual type machines.
Accountabilities: • Disassemble equipment prepatory for repair or remanufacture. • Service all locomotives and support equipment to include sand, water, oil and fuel. • Perform machine and tool set-up • Maintain clean work area, adjusts and sharpens tooling and machinery. • Read and interpret blueprints. • Work in tool room, clean and inventory tools and tooling. • Handling precision measuring instruments. • Service all assigned Steam and Diesel Locomotives and support equipment including Rotary Snow Plow, Single and Double-track type Snow Plows and associated support equipment. • Operates engine lathes, horizontal and vertical milling machines, shapers, drill presses, hydraulic presses. • Operate tool sharpening fixtures and specialized tools and machinery as required.
Preferred Education, Training, Experience or Skills: • Mechanical Experience • Travel with assigned locomotives, steam and diesel, rotary snow plows, and all other equipment as assigned. • Five (5) years machine shop practical experience or equivalent railroad experience.

Work Conditions: • Must be available to work any shift. • Varied work conditions. Work will take place both in a shop environment and outside, regardless of weather conditions. • Must be willing to work at heights of 20 feet or more above ground if it is required.
