Basic Purpose of Job: Develop detail design plans of track alignment and grading site work for construction of track facilities including yards, sidings, connections and double track projects. Develop designs that are safe, functional and economical. Provide accurate and complete cost estimates. Coordinate with various engineering departments to ensure customer requirements are met.
This is a Band B position in the Engineering department. Selected candidate must have qualified on the Operating Management Test Battery.
Accountabilities: • Ensure designs are made to meet safety, functional and budget needs of our customers. • Coordinate with various departments and contractors in the design process. • Review outside consultants' proposals, plans, etc., to see that they meet our specifications. • Develop and provide project information to contract support group for bid package preparation, to later evaluate bids and recommend successful bidder. • Attend pre-bid and pre-construction meetings to provide technical support. • Ensure the design complies with all government regulations as well as Company policies and procedures. • Provide information to schedulers and planners for schedules, AFE's, and material requisitions. • Ensure that all projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner. • Generate new and update existing Company Standard Drawings.
Preferred Education, Training, Experience or Skills: • A Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or Technology or equivalent in railroad construction/design experience • 1 year(s) experience / knowledge in computer applications as a CAD designer/engineer with experience with Microstation systems • 4 year(s) experience / knowledge in Engineering with Engineer Design Field experience in (1) Survey, (2) Construction and (3) Track Maintenance • 2 year(s) experience / knowledge in a management / professional position Office experience in planning and scheduling; and working with others within the Company, customers, other railroads and public agencies • Registered professional engineer
