Retail Sales Associates work in our gift shops greeting guests, answering questions about a wide variety of merchandise and ensuring that all guests go home with memories of their trip to Yellowstone....not souvenirs. Associates stock shelves, clean the store and assist in unloading delivery trucks. Although cash-handling- experience is a must, this is not a cashier's job. Retail Sales Associates are guest service associates...who know how to operate a point- of-sale cash register system.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the guest and manage inventory by accurately recording purchases on computer-based retail Raymark system.
- Provide excellent guest service by adhering to Xanterra's hospitality standards.
- Successfully demonstrate good sales techniques by performing suggestive selling and add-on sales.
- Performing cashiering duties properly. Rings up sale before taking money, calls out amount tendered in ‘Dollars and Cents” places bills horizontally under clip, counts back change from amount due to amount tendered.
- Stock product as necessary, make sure all displays are kept stocked, neat and clean within the guidelines of the Retail Merchandising Manual.
- Maintain a safe work area. Keeping the sales floor clean, this includes sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and trash removal.
- Comply with Yellowstone's Environmental Management Systems (Ecologix) and look for ways to improve the impact your job has on the environment.
- Assist the Gift Shop Manager with inventory control, receiving and merchandise display. Discusses concerns, only with Managers. Alerts manager to shrinkage, guest problems concerns. Maintains a good working relationship with Managers and co-workers.
- Give accurate helpful information to Yellowstone Park Visitors.
- Other Duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Able to operate a cash register, handle cash accurately, open and close the store with or without assistance. Assist in maintaining proper sales records: including understanding night reports.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of Gift Shop Procedures by completing the Gift Shop Training Program.
- Able to function with flexibility and courteous behavior in a high traffic seasonal retail operation.
- Acquire and demonstrate a basic knowledge of product information when used as part of a professional sales approach.
- Able to work with a minimum of supervision, maintain excellent attendance and punctuality. Takes breaks in appropriate area for limited time and uses the time clock correctly.
- Show an awareness of inventory control through efficient management of assigned merchandise section, with attention to pilferage protection.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to stand/walk for a minimum eight-hour shift.
- Frequently lift and carry cartons weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Carry boxes/product up and down stairs at most locations several times a day.
- Must be able to bend down or kneel to stock product frequently during a shift.
