Fly Fishing-Inerpretive Guide (Transportation)

The Fly Fishing-Interpretive Guides host fly fishing excursions for Yellowstone guests; safely navigating the Yellowstone backcountry while offering fly fishing technique instruction and interpretive information to participants. This position requires solid knowledge of fly fishing in fresh water, the ability to operate a large 15-passenger van on various types of road conditions while providing knowledgeable, interpretive commentary of Park features and history. Our Guides must enjoy spending time with multiple guests in conditions that require excellent teaching, communication and guest service skills.

Uniform for this position includes appropriate outdoor clothing, gear and shoes, to be provided by the employee.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports directly to the location Dispatcher and/or the Assistant Manager or Manager of Transportation Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Safe and proper operation of company equipment in all weather conditions.
• Ability to instruct guests on fly-fishing including but not limited to casting techniques, knot tying
• and proper catch and release procedures.
• Operating a 15-passenger van on various types of road conditions.
• Maintaining professionalism while working outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
• Loading, unloading and maintenance of fishing gear and equipment.
• Maintaining an adequate inventory of flies.
• Providing courteous guest service.
• Providing a knowledgeable, interpretive commentary of Park features and history.
• Leading guided walks of up to a mile or longer in length.
• Keeping tours on a time schedule. Must be punctual.
• Prompt and correct completion of all required reports.
• Representing the Company in a positive manner.
• Responsible for a clean and neat appearance in the prescribed uniform.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

• At least 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
• Good driving record.
• Must be able to obtain a 1st Aid/CPR Certificate.
• Extensive knowledge of Yellowstone National Park fishing regulations.
• Knowledge of safety procedures ,but not limited to, proper river/lake wading techniques, bear safety (including use of pepper spray) and hook removal from persons.
• Simultaneously steer a vehicle, shift it's transmission, operate accelerator and brake
• pedals, and give commentary while driving in heavy traffic.
• Operating a 15-passenger van on rough and/or icy roads.
• Communicate effectively through speech and hearing.
• Good reading and comprehension skills to research tour information.
• Able to organize information about Yellowstone National Park into an interpretive thematic tour.
• Judgment and leadership to keep your trip on a semblance of a schedule.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to walk up to one mile several times each day at elevations ranging from 5,300 feet
• to 10,000 feet above sea level.
• Able to bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs. simultaneously and repeatedly.
• Able to work outdoors in variable weather, including rain, sleet, snow, direct sunlight,
• high winds, and temperatures ranging from -60°F degrees to +100°F degrees Fahrenheit.
