Responsibilities

  • Participate fully with the Office Director in planning, managing, organizing and directing all of the regulatory review operation, program segment, functions and activities of the division.
  • Serve as an expert and Mathematical Statistician in making decisions that significantly affect context, interpretation and development of policies and programs related to products.
  • Provide comprehensive statistical and bio-mathematical serves to Center programs.
  • Define jobs, select employees, and assigns work; defines technical work requirement and milestones; evaluates the organization and employee accomplishments by accepting or rejection work products.
  • Represent the division and Office in dealing and negotiating with individuals representing organizations as the Congress; other Federal agencies; state, local, and foreign governments.
  • Collaborate on a national level with scientist, engineers, and other professionals on a wide range of statistical, technical and regulatory issues.

    Qualifications

    In order to qualify for Supervisory Mathematical Statistician, 1529, at GS - 15, you must meet Time-in-Grade requirements by 05/31/2018.

    Must possess a degree that include 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics. (You must submit transcript at time of application submission)
    OR
    Must possess coursework equivalent to a major as shown in A above plus additional education or appropriate experience--at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics. (You must submit transcript at time of application submission).

    Evaluation of Education:

    Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement of paragraphs A or B above must have included at least four of the following: differential calculus, integral calculus, advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite. Courses in mathematical statistics or probability theory with a prerequisite of elementary calculus or more advanced courses will be accepted toward meeting the mathematics requirements, with the provision that the same course cannot be counted toward both the mathematics and the statistics requirement.

    In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements listed above you must also meet the following:

    Must have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service with experience 1) Providing managerial leadership for a technical administrative program; 2) Conducting statistical research and review of studies submitted in support of regulatory drug or biologic applications; and 3) Evaluating and applying statistical methodology to provide scientific support for regulatory decisions regarding mathematical scientific initiatives.

    In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
