Horseshoe Casino Baltimore on Russell Street in Baltimore's south side opened in August 2014. Horseshoe Baltimore was designed to maximize connectivity with existing hospitality operators, neighboring professional sports venues M&T Bank Stadium and Camden Yards, and the city's famed Inner Harbor. With nearly 122,000 square feet of non-stop gaming action, the casino features video lottery terminals (VLTs), table games, and a World Series of Poker room. Guy Fieri's Baltimore Kitchen and Bar, John Besh and Aarón Sanchez's Johnny Sanchez, Horseshoe's famous Jack Binion's Steak and a "Baltimore Marketplace" featuring authentic Charm City food outlets round out the food offerings. Horseshoe Baltimore also features nightlife at 14forty, Horseshoe's center bar featuring 24/7 entertainment, not to mention bars such as B'More Beers, which highlights some of Baltimore's famed brewers.

Job Description:
Job Summary:
Reports directly to the Director of Surveillance and Risk. The Safety Specialist will support the Risk and Safety function by helping manage and mitigate risk to Horseshoe Baltimore. This is an extremely critical role in protecting the assets of our company.

Essential Job Functions including the following but other duties may be assigned:

  • Be a Role Model and leader in the safety plan of the property.
  • Ensure OSHA, regulatory, Labor, and legal rules/laws are followed at the property as it pertains to Safety and Workman's compensation.
  • Ensure all needed inspections are performed on property as well as coordination with Fire Marshall, OSHA representatives, Regulatory bodies.
  • Work with all Departments to ensure their work environment is safe and up to requirements as well as ensuring safety policies are documented and followed.
  • Coordinate and implement safety and loss prevention programs including compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act standards, safety training, safety committee meetings, safety bulletin boards, safety recognition programs, etc.
  • Maintain certificates of insurance.
  • Be the leader in the Safety committee and guide safety walks/inspections of the property.
  • Assist in Motor Vehicle Record checks
  • Coordinate other Department related projects
  • Maintain and update Department records and prepare required reports for governmental agencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and reports.
  • Perform other job-related tasks, as assigned by the Director of Surveillance and Risk.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service to all internal and external clients by communicating in a pleasant, friendly, and professional manner at all times.
  • Answer telephone politely and efficiently, screen calls and visitors when appropriate.

  • Must have at least 2 years' experience in the insurance, safety or risk management area for a large company or public entity.
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred in area of OSHA or commercial safety.
    • Must have excellent Excel, Access Database, Word and other reporting skills
      • Must be proficient in Power Point Presentation software.
        • Must be highly organized with the highest attention to detail.
        • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

        Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:
        • Must be able to work independently.
        • Must be able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time (4 hours).
        • Must be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions when handling employee conflicts.
        • Must be able to maneuver throughout all areas of the property and from floor to floor either by stairways (minimum of 20 steps) or escalator.
        • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; and, have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop and kneel.
        • Respond to visual and aural cues.
        • Must have the manual dexterity to operate a computer and other necessary office equipment.
        • Must be able to tolerate areas containing dust, loud noises and bright lights.
        • Must be able to work varied shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.
        • Ability to simultaneously manage several projects, and not be frustrated by changing priorities and unforeseen obstacles to achieving objectives.
        • Ability to speak distinctly and persuasively.
        • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
