Microsoft Cloud Infrastructure and Operations (MCIO) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services. The team is responsible for designing, building and operating our unified global datacenters; managing the demand planning and capacity utilization of our unified infrastructure; and all of the operations needed to run the physical infrastructure (including supply chain, hardware, power, security, and workflow teams). We focus on smart growth with an emphasis on automation, data driven engineering, cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability.   We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 100 datacenters and 1 million servers. Our portfolio is built and managed by a team of subject matter experts working 24x7x365 to support services for more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries worldwide.   |
Within MCIO, the Data Center Operations Tools Team is responsible for providing software solutions to improve data center operation throughput and reduce labor cost and error rate. We also own the data center access tool and a reference system about data center facilities.
We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager who is passionate about solving large business optimization problems at scale. If you are comfortable working in a start-up/v1 effort, enjoy incrementally marching to towards a well-defined long-term architecture, and are motivated by solving hard business process problems with technology then this could be the position for you.
-Lead a software engineering team.
-Work with appropriate stakeholders to enumerate the components that will be necessary to implement a scalable capacity allocation system for optimizing the cloud infrastructure utilization at Microsoft
-Lead design of architectural requirements and interfaces for solutions
-Drive implementation leveraging state of the art techniques
-BS OR MS in Computer Science or equivalent, PhD preferred
-10 years of experience leading design and development of software platforms, with at least 5 years in distributed services
- 10 years of experience in C, C , C#, OR Java
-Knowledge of various techniques to solve business problems at scale
-Proven track record of design and technical accomplishment
-Ability to quickly pick up existing concepts and employ new techniques
-Strong problem solving and communication skills
