With a friendly, upbeat and positive attitude, the Deckhand supports the safe operation of the vessel in a fashion that exceeds the highest standards within the passenger vessel industry. Promote and maintain the utmost integrity and the highest standard of customer service to all guest and team members.
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
Good communication skills and the ability to read, write and follow both written and verbal instructions.
Must be able to make independent decisions yet follow orders in an emergency situation.
Good interpersonal skills and be a team player.
Participate in Safety, Marine and other training as required by Marine Operations.
Participate in all emergency drills as directed.
Participate in departmental and safety meetings as requested.
Ensure that personal protective safety equipment is provided and properly used for all tasks involving physical hazards.
Assist with the safe mooring, docking and un-docking of the vessel in a variety of weather and river stage conditions.
Assist engineering with tasks as assigned.
Responsible for painting, painting preparation and clean up throughout the entire vessel.
Perform routine maintenance, clean up, trash removal, wash downs, etc.
Be aware of guest service and safety issues and provide regular and dependable feedback to the Captain by way of the Bridgemate.
Relamp interior and exterior of vessel as required.
Responsible for removal of all trash from vessel to shore side container.
Know location of and be able to use all safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, fire hoses, lifejacket lockers, emergency lighting, first aid supplies and rescue boat and equipment.
Know proper lifejacket donning methods.
Participate in the operation of the vessel within the legal requirements of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Indiana Gaming Commission and other pertinent regulatory agencies under the supervision of the Bridgemate.
Make routine inspections under the direction of the Bridgemate and report any hazards.
Maintain continuous radio contact with the Marine Department and use proper radio etiquette at all times.
Responsible to maintain the outside of the vessel for all cleaning, painting, etc.
Assist with boarding and disembarkation, greeting guests, and providing guest safety guidance.
Any and all other duties as assigned.
Physical, Mental, & Environmental Demands:
Must be able to work independently.
Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, minimum of 4-6 hrs.
Must be able to maneuver from floor to floor either by stairways (a minimum of 20 steps), or by escalator.
Responds to visual and aural cues.
Must be fluent and literate in English.

Must be capable of working on vessel in all types of weather conditions during day and night hours.
Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, turn, push and pull, as well as lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
Must have the manual dexterity to grab, grip, hold, pour, tear, cut, sort and reach.
Must be able to tolerate areas containing second hand smoke, dust, loud noises and bright lights.
Must be able to work a varied schedule, holidays and weekends as requested.
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations:
Must qualify for, obtain, and maintain a gaming license from the Indiana Gaming Commission
