Position Description:
The Donor Relations Associate will focus on expanding the current donor base, including all aspects of prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of Corporate, Foundation and Individual donors. The position focuses on relationship development with the donor community to obtain support for annual, capital, planned giving and endowment programs. This will be accomplished through strategic planning; effective grant writing and communication skills; individual activity and by working in collaboration with others. Essential Duties include identifying, cultivating, and soliciting philanthropic support by developing and maintaining relationships with corporations, foundations, individuals and other key personnel. The Associate will seek, develop, write and presents proposals for private sector and foundation grant and other philanthropic opportunities. Either individually or in concert with the Director of Development and the Capital Campaign Council, the Associate solicits support for the Zoo using existing products as the principle vehicle to acquire new donors as well as developing new fundraising strategies and methods or activities to ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of donors. This individual will participates in developing campaign materials, case statements, and brochures manage and increase membership in the Guardian Program and planned giving efforts, in conjunction with the Director of Development. The Associate will meet fundraising goals with a stretch goal of exceeding them, plan and execute donor special events and contribute to the overall execution of the $20 million capital campaign.

Applicants for this position must have a minimum of three years fundraising experience with a proven track record of success in the solicitation of corporate, individual and major gifts required. Experience in the Phoenix market is preferred. A Bachelor's Degree in business, or non-profit administration or related field is preferred as well as experience in grant/proposal writing. Applicants must have proven experience meeting with individuals in a one-on-one setting as well as with corporate and foundation personnel. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including an ability to develop and make presentations to potential donors, boards of directors, and a variety of stakeholders are essential. Applicants should also have a demonstrated ability to both work with a high degree of autonomy and participate effectively on a team. If hired a candidate must pass pre-employment background check and drug test.
