Position Description: Reporting directly to the Director of Operations and Husbandry, this position is responsible for organizing, implementing, facilitating and coordinating Aquarium-related conservation and research at the Aquarium. This will include developing a plan for these activities, writing proposals for grant funding, encouraging appropriate research by scientists from other organizations, facilitating the work of those scientists at the Aquarium, serving as liaison between visiting scientists and the Aquarium, conducting original research, providing expertise in marine science and conservation, establishing and representing the Aquarium on appropriate boards and committees. This position will also work with the Aquarium education staff to present research efforts to the public and to coordinate Aquarium conservation education activities. Weekend, evening and holiday work may be required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:/b> Must be competent in the scientific method of conducting research, have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Should have demonstrated track record of successful grant writing; should have working knowledge of marine science and veterinary medicine; must be knowledgeable about aquatic conservation practices, issues and organizations. Candidate should be proficient in educational programming and comfortable with general public presentations. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Possession of a master's degree in Biology, Zoology, or a science curriculum related to the area of expertise and three years of experience in specialty area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
