Position Description: The Life Support Intern will assist in the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of all equipment associated with the preservation and well-being of our diverse animal collection. These duties include water quality (salinity, coliforms, pH), systems monitoring (levels, flows, temp), operations (backwash, water changes, ozone), maintenance (calibration, repairs), etc. Essential Duties: • Must have an interest in, and be willing to learn about, aquarium dynamics, maintenance, and the biology of the Downtown Aquarium’s animal collection • Should be fairly agile with the ability to climb on top of tanks and up ladders • Should be able to use basic power tools • Must be willing to get wet, perform "dirty" jobs and handle fish, and above all, have the ability to problem solve • Will be performing similar tasks to staff Life Support Operators as well as participating in cross-training with the Aquarists staff Requested Job Requirements: • Ability to work a 4 hour shift • Ability to work shifts between 7:00 AM-3:00 PM, 3-4 days per week (including weekends and holidays) • Ability to lift 50+ lbs Apply Directly to this Company To apply for this position, apply directly through the company's website at Association of Zoos & Aquariums Employment Opportunities . *This company prefers that all applicants come directly through their website.
