Position Description:
MAJOR DUTIES:

The Federal Aviation Administration seeks a world-class expert in the structural loads industry. This position is critical to maintaining a high level of aviation safety and retaining U.S. leadership in the development and implementation of technical standards for new technologies. The Chief Scientific and Technical Advisor (CSTA) for Flight Loads/Aeroelasticity is the FAA's recognized expert for structural loads on fixed wing airplanes and he/she defines and advances new technologies in flight and ground loads to establish leadership in the field. The incumbent is responsible for providing expert scientific and technical advice and guidance in all research and development programs in structural loads analysis methods, data development techniques, results validation, computational fluid dynamics methods, wind tunnel and flight test measurement, calibration, and data analysis techniques. The CSTA for Flight Loads/Aeroelasticity provides varied professional, scientific, and expert consultation and assistance to the FAA, other governmental bodies, private industry, and foreign nations on flight loads/aeroelasticity and its application through participation in local, national, and international technical associations and industry meetings and committee activities. He/she must apply expertise to propel the Aircraft Certification Service toward meeting the FAA goal to provide a safe and efficient global aerospace system that contributes to national security and the promotion of U.S. aerospace safety.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Possession of a graduate degree is expected in the physical or engineering sciences with concentration in aerospace engineering, aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, flight dynamics, thermodynamics and flight structure. Experience must have been sufficiently specialized to insure adequate familiarity in structural loads analysis methods, data development techniques, results validation, computational fluid dynamics methods, wind tunnel and flight test measurement, calibration, and data analysis techniques.

MANDATORY BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional degree or a combination of education and experience.

ou must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

You must submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test before you can be appointed into this position.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.

You will be required to do some travel.
