Position Description:
As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the Conservation Planning Assistance Program at one of the Ecological Services Program offices in the Northeast Region (Region 5), your duties will include the following: * Participates in interagency and multi-agency inter-disciplinary team directed at assessing complex resource problems associated with Federal Aid highway projects.
* Plans and provides oversight for conduct of technical reviews, including impact assessments; mitigation monitoring and evaluation; development of resource management plans.
* Plans and reports on a variety of assigned commitments under the Conservation and Planning Assistance Program designed to protect and restore trust species and their habitats.
* Evaluates biological data and Federal program or project operational data to determine the effects of the programs or actions on threatened or endangered species
* Provides technical guidance to other biologists.
* Collects and manages field data by using GIS and other computer assisted programs.
* Develops management plans.
* May serve as a contract project officer and research coordinator
At the GS-11 grade level, you would be assisting higher level biologists in the performance of your position.
At the GS-12 grade level, you would be a Senior Biologist with authority, responsibility, and accountability for organization, development, coordination, and timely execution or oversight of all assigned projects.
Work Environment: Outdoor work involves occasional exposure to moderate safety risks such as travel in approved small air and water craft, moderate discomforts such as exposure to wind, temperature, and weather extremes, and moderate unpleasantness such as biting insects (some of which may transmit potentially serious diseases). Special safety equipment (e.g. flotation vests, nomex fire-retardant suits) are necessary for outdoor work involving water craft or aircraft.
