Position Description:
The Legislative Representative Great Waters Campaigns will advocate on behalf of NWF’s national restoration campaign including helping build and sustain the newly formed America’s Great Waters Coalition. This position will involve intensive outreach to Congress and Administration in an effort to advance funding, policy and other priorities identified by America’s Great Waters Coalition and NWF. This position will work closely with the Coalition Steering Committee and the Direction of National Restoration and Water Resources Campaigns to support coalition meetings, events and activities including developing educational and advocacy materials for activists, agency and congressional staff. In addition to NWF’s Great Waters restoration campaigns, this position will work with the larger Water Resources team in the National Advocacy Center to advocate for other changes in federal water resources policy that will better protect and restore floodplains in the face of more intense storms, sea level rise, flooding and other climate impacts. Activities here will include education, policy analysis, coordination with DC water team members, and materials production.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.

Required Skills:

At least 5 years progressively responsible experience required in helping develop and implement advocacy campaigns, grassroots organizing, media, and environmental advocacy.

Additional Skills:

Must be knowledgeable of how Congress and Executive Branch agencies work. Must be knowledgeable about water restoration laws, programs and policies and how to use them as a tool to protect wildlife and wild places. Familiarity with the Federal budget and Congressional Appropriations process a plus. Must be a strategic thinker, well organized, strong communicator, and have a demonstrated ability to set goals and meet deadlines. Must possess ability to work collaboratively with others.
