Position Description:
Supervises work crews in absence of plumber supervisor. performs inspections on and repairs and installs all types of plumbing and sanitation equipment and fixtures.

May be required to inspect and repair HVACR and mechanical systems and assist structural department.

Determines by regular inspection the repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns and major overhauls on plumbing systems and equipment.

Recommends when equipment should be shut down for major overhauls.

Plans sequences of operations and methods to use when making repairs, replacements, mechanical alterations, and overhauls, following trade practices and manufacturer's guidelines.

Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.

Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.

Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.

Cuts and threads pipe.

Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand.

Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, and plastic.

Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints.

Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.

Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.

Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises employees in the Engineering. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Must be able to hear and follow proper procedures for harassment complaints.

Qualifications:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Inventory software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

    Valid driver’s license required with at least three (3) years driving experience and must meet company’s driving requirements. State of Florida's Plumbers License--must be able to obtain within six months of employment.

Other Skills and Abilities:

    Minimum of five years experience as a plumber--commercial or residential required. Must be able to install, troubleshoot and repair plumbing and sanitation systems and equipment. Must be able to understand and speak fluent English.

Other Qualifications:

    Must be able to work nights, weekends or holidays as needed.
