Position Description:
ESPN is seeking a Web developer who will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing and supporting live scoring products for ESPN.com. This position is part of the ESPN Digital Media Product Development, Live Events team in Bristol CT. The Live Events team is responsible for innovation, development and support of live scoring products within ESPN.com.

This is an excellent opportunity for an avid sports fan with hands-on technology expertise to conceptualize and build new live scoring related applications, products, and services that extend ESPN’s brand recognition and provide world class stability, reliability, and performance.

The right candidate will have a demonstrable track record of successfully building and supporting high quality, innovative applications, products, and services for a consumer-oriented company. The right candidate must have hands-on technical expertise and be a self-motivated, team player who can drive his/her own work while keeping an eye to the overall business objectives of the organization. This person must be able to work closely with internal and external technology experts including Flash Developers, Software Engineers, Architecture leads and Ad producers.

Responsibilities include:

    • Creates products in Tea(scripting language), HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, XML and flash action script that are used for dynamic web publishing and the display of dynamic, automated database content as well as live event coverage

    • Supports scalable, performance minded complex flash applications

    • Creates efficient, reusable and scalable templates used throughout ESPN.com

    • Works with Software Engineering to design and create advanced tools to support production, editorial, and design functionalities

    • Leads product coordination between design, engineering, and editorial departments and components and manages site-wide projects

    • Works on areas that require improvement, identifies and implements solutions

    • Troubleshoots and provides general support and maintenance to various sections and pages of ESPN.com

    • Mentors junior developers

    • Identifies areas for site and product improvement, adding features and functionalities where appropriate

    • Improves fans' experiences and interactions with content

Required Qualifications:

    • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical degree

    • 1-3 years of work experience in a consumer-oriented media company or software development company

    • 1-3 years experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Flash

    • General understanding of Microsoft SQL Server

    • Strong understanding of object oriented programming

    • Knowledge of AJAX/JSON technologies

    • Demonstrated ability to work on a diverse scope of projects requiring detailed analysis, creative/practical problem solving, and sound judgment.

    • Ability to operate effectively in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.

    • Must demonstrate solid organization/communication skills.

    • Manage multiple projects within a short development cycle with moderate supervision

    • A passion for sports!
