Position Description:
Participate in clinical research studies conducted by principal investigator(s) at Duke University Medical Center; perform a variety of duties involved in the collection, compilation, documentation and analysis of clinical research data.

Work Performed

Participate in clinical research studies conducted by a supervising principal investigator(s) in support of activities that meet objectives of assigned research protocol(s). Follow established guidelines in the collection of clinical data and/or administration of clinical tests; screen patients for inclusion in study based on predetermined criteria; provide basic patient care and treatment as requested by physician. Confer with patient and attending physician to explain purpose of study and obtain informed consent; explain diagnostic procedures and/or treatment plan to alleviate patient and/or family concerns. Collect information from patient charts, medical records, interviews, questionnaires and other resources; code, evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare appropriate summary forms, statistical reports and analyses. Obtain patient blood samples, cultures, tissues and other specimens for laboratory analysis; initiate drug orders and laboratory studies for patients based on standing protocol orders. Assist principal investigator(s) and/or other members of the research team in the development of plans and protocols for clinical research studies; contribute to the analysis and interpretation of results as appropriate. Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies and equipment for performance of duties; clean and maintain laboratory equipment. Review work of lower level laboratory personnel within designated areas and assist in training new personnel. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. State of North Carolina licensure is also required.
