Position Description:
Plan and provide professional nursing care for ambulatory care patients in accordance with physician orders, and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Work Performed

Plan and provide professional nursing care for ambulatory care patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures to include collecting and analyzing patient data, making recommendations for nursing care plans, establishing interpersonal relationships with patients, evaluating nursing care given and communicating to proper personnel relevant facts about patients, action taken and patient responses. Delegates tasks and supervises the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers. Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of patient care and act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or a clinic as assigned. Provide direction and guidance in the proper use, care and control of material resources; appraise quality and effectiveness of material and equipment and report results to head nurse; maintain standards of cleanliness in assigned areas. Observe activities of nursing staff and make recommendations to nurse manager for improvement in the quality and effectiveness of nursing care given. Assist in the development and implementation of general policies and procedures designed to effect efficiency of operations. Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings. Act as preceptor and supports the development of other staff and formal learners. Participate in the formal evaluation process of peers and other care providers. Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities. May participate in the interview process and make hiring recommendations. Demonstrate commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing nurse practices to enhance safety. Shares errors through system reporting mechanisms, and demonstrates shared accountability for safe practices. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program.
