Position Description:
Playing a key role within Mine Planning and Projects, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating schedules and mine plans in accordance to Suncor’s overall Mine Operations Business Plan.
Reporting to the Manager of Scheduling, key responsibilities include developing plans for the mining operation, coordinate budget and business plans, and working closely with operations to ensure the planning process offers cost effective awareness of the scheduling function.
Key Accountabilities:
• Develop and coordinate mine schedules from two months to life of mine range for Suncor’s base plant operations
• Produce mine schedules for budget cycle within the framework of the Mine Operations overall business plan
• Present mine schedules and plans to Mine Operations and Mine Technical personnel
• Maintain material balance over schedule period to ensure planned delivery of ore and overburden material movement
• Work closely with various business units including mine operations and extraction to gain consensus on planning and scheduling for overall mine operations
• Raise awareness of impact that production and costs have on the schedule and vice versa
• Provide technical mentorship and peer reviews to junior staff members
• Participate in Suncor’s long term growth projects and coordinate project planning and scheduling in accordance to business plan.
Qualification Requirements:
• Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mining preferred however, candidates with degrees in Civil or Geotechnical • Engineering will also be considered.
• Broad range experience in the mining industry including a multidisciplinary background in mining, geotechnical, and civil engineering
• Minimum of five (5) years planning and scheduling experience in a mining environment
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to deliver results of mine planning to key members of Suncor’s operations
• Broad understanding of Oil Sands Major Projects operations would be desirable but not mandatory
• Experience with Mine planning software and/or project management experience is considered a strong asset but not essential.
