Position Description:
Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) Manager is responsible to the Director Flight Safety (Air Group) to coordinate the collection, transcription, analysis and dissemination of digitally recorded flight data to appropriate Division/Department, and will assist the Director Flight Safety (Air Group) in facilitating the identification of abnormalities and enabling the appropriate departments in addressing and correcting any hazards identified.

Essential Job Duties:

    • Be a technical liaison between Flight Operations and the Maintenance and Engineering Division for both Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air
    • Act as a technical liaison between Flight Operations and outside vendors to help continue the development of the FOQA program
    • Evaluate options and write specifications for new equipment required to implement current FOQA programs and new data gathering programs in the future
    • Investigate mechanical problems reported by Maintenance and Engineering or Flight Operations by reviewing the gathered data
    • Design software routines that will gather data required for special flight performance studies
    • Report to Maintenance and Engineering pertinent Flight Data Recorder sensor problems found while reviewing the gathered data
    • Serve as liaison between Flight Operations Training Department and all matters concerning FOQA
    • Coordinate Flight Operations data retrieval and storage needs with Information and Communication Services (ICS)
    • Act as the liaison between the Alaska Air Group carriers and the FAA in all matters concerning FOQA
    • Act as the liaison between the Alaska Airlines and ALPA for all matters regarding FOQA
    • Act as the liaison between the Horizon Air and Teamsters for all matters regarding FOQA
    • Define and develop and auditing and tracking system to assure measurable benefit

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • A working knowledge of aircraft systems and their operation
    • A working knowledge of how to research in-depth aircraft systems operation details
    • Working knowledge of Maintenance and Engineering division’s organization and procedures
    • Working knowledge of available data analysis software
    • SAGEM, FOQA and CEFA animation program experience preferred

Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor Degree in Statistics, Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field is preferred
    • Minimum of two years of predictive modeling experience
    • Experience in data analysis, risk analysis, trending and report generation
