Senior Network Systems Specialist

Position Description:
This position will be responsible for all aspects of our Corporate Network Environment, including Enterprise firewall Management, Network Security, Datacenter redundancy, disaster recovery, and overall network health. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional technical background and extensive experience in complex, heterogeneous networking environments. They will Work closely with systems administrators, project managers and architects to implement our core network strategy. Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and writing skills are a must.

Essential Job Duties:

·Configure and maintain production and corporate networks

·Implement and maintain advanced network systems such as firewalls, IDS, and other related technologies

·Provide 3rd tier support for the production sites and services - troubleshoot technical problems as they arise, design and implement long term solutions

·Performance and capacity planning: monitor, reconfigure and tune network hardware, firewalls and load balancers for performance improvements and future scalability

·Provides network administration decisions for Alaska Airlines properties and systems.

·Work closely with system administrators and developers providing support and technical expertise

·Participate in scheduled off-hours service outage upgrades

·Perform and document network operations processes and procedures including installation and testing of network upgrades, fail over, and configuration documentation

·Maintain Global Traffic Managers

·Communicate issues clearly to business and technical groups within the company

·Facilitate the planning of system and feature upgrades.

·Enforce network security procedures

Skills, Education and Experience:

·Bachelor’s degree and/or eight plus years relevant experience. The following certifications are desired: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE).

·Must have proven hands-on experience with: Firewalls, VPN, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Incident Response, Centralized logging & analytics, vulnerability management, and patch management.

·Expert understanding of routing basics including BGP, EIGRP, OSPF.

·Have experience with most LAN and WAN architectures including Ethernet (Fast and Gigabit), MPLS, MOE, SHNS, Frame Relay, T1, DS3, OC3,

·Experience with network management platforms and protocols such as SNMP and RMON

·Significant experience with technologies from the following manufacturers is desired: Juniper, CheckPoint, Cisco, F5, Symantec, and Microsoft.

·Experience in developing and maintaining scripting environments such as perl and/or shell a plus

·Ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment required

·Must have very good written and oral communication skills

·Ability to work both as a member of a group and as an individual contributor

·Participate in shared on-call schedule
