Position Description:
Provide superior Ski Instruction to all ages, in both group and private lesson environments. Provide a safe and nurturing environment for all guests, be actively involved and have a positive attitude about all programs.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide superior service to our customers (internal and external) at all times. Follow The Resort's etiquette guidelines while interacting with guests and respond to all guests in a courteous, professional manner.
Confer regularly with guests to explain programs, services, policies, schedules and rates.
Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors and the general public at all times.
Seeks supervisor out when faced with a situation that is out of instructor’s realm of authority
Provides superior ski instruction to guests of all ages.
Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to the department’s and PSIA’s philosophy, goals and objectives as outlined
Makes purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on snow
Plans and implements a program of instruction designed to meet both individual and group needs of students
Creates a fun environment that is conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
Encourage student enthusiasm for skiing and the learning process and the further development of good skiing skills
Instructs all students on The Skier's Responsibility Code, and ensures all safety practices are taught and adhered to.
Recognizes discrepancies in group skiing abilities and makes changes to group makeup as required and available
Demonstrates a strong grasp of skiing concepts
Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Evaluates the accomplishments of students on a regular basis by evaluating students’ performance throughout the day
Confer regularly with immediate supervisor and other Company personnel to plan, coordinate and evaluate services/activities, exchange information and resolve problems.
Attends all required training, safety and other meetings, required both by the department and company.
Demonstrated commitment to improving personal skiing and teaching abilities through attendance of supplementary training.
Adheres to uniform policy and appearance standard as outlined in The Canyons Ski & Snowboard School Manual and The Canyons Staff Guide.
Perform other duties as required.
WORKING RELATIONSHIP
Direct Supervision is received from the Adult Group Programs Supervisor and/or Private Program Supervisor.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Exposure to inclement weather; bending, lifting and squatting
Physical ability to respond appropriately to emergency and other unplanned situations
QUALIFICATIONS
Desire to work with and relate to guests and fellow employees.
Demonstrated ability to communicate, supervise, and work with assigned ages and skill levels and provide necessary instructions to students.
Ability to take initiative, be highly organized, effectively communicate, and manage groups of all ages.
Good role model, high integrity, and adaptable.
One year ski teaching experience, OR advanced skiing ability combined with the willingness and demonstrated aptitude to learn ski instructing
High School Diploma or equivalent, and two years demonstrated success working with children in a teaching environment
Advanced skiing ability
PSIA Level I Certified with ACE Level I Certification, or equivalent international certification, preferred. Level I Certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire
